From the Principal, Ms Judith Potter

“Education is an important mission, which draws young people to what is good, beautiful and true.”

(Pope Francis)

During lent we are called to reflect on our daily lives and to consider what we can do without, in order to support others who are in need of our care and priority of attention.  Support can take many forms, including the gift of our time, talent or financial resources.  I encourage all families to prioritise the Easter Picnic on 20 March.  This is an opportunity to join together as a school community, enjoying ourselves whilst raising funds for Loreto Gari-uai in Timor Leste.

Swimming Carnival

LizCrothers_7151The sunshine was matched by the exuberance and strong House spirit of our students.  From the traditional 50m races to the 25m races to the novelty events to water polo to the water play area to the ‘grande finale’ of the Year 12 synchronised swimming competition, the active and spirited participation of students contributed to the great success of the day. I thank all who contributed to the planning, organisation and smooth running of the day; in particular, Miss Elise Karslake (Sports Trainee) and Mrs Megan Poulton and Mr Shane Nankervis (Directors of Co-Curricular Sport).  It was a pleasure to be joined by family members.

Reunions

It was a delight to welcome members of the classes of 1966, 2006 and 2011 back to Loreto for their reunions on Saturday.  I thank Mrs Judy-Ann Quilliam (Director of Marketing, Community Relations and Fundraising) and her team for the planning and organisation.  The joyous Loreto spirit was very evident on the day.  Our current students are always generous in leading school tours.

Loreto Schools of Australia (LSAC) Committee:

Loreto Ballarat had great pleasure in hosting the first LSAC meeting for the year on Monday and Tuesday.  LSAC has as members a senior staff member from each of the Loreto schools across Australia and from the Province.  Projects led by LSAC include Mary Ward Connect and annual conferences.
