Mabo Day today marks 30 years since the landmark Mabo Decision, in which Mer Island man Eddie Koiki Mabo was successful in his efforts to overturn the legal fiction of terra nullius (land belonging to no one). This led to the legal recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands.
June 3 also marks the end of National Reconciliation Week (NRW). As reconciliation is an ongoing journey beyond NRW, it has been wonderful to see our students make their pledge towards reconciliation while being involved in the various NRW activities. Have a look at the amazing display our Year 7 students have created of people who have contributed to reconciliation in Australia.
Reconciliation is everyone’s business, every day, so check out the link in our bio for a list of actions we can all do to make change.
