Loreto ladies showed that they can well and truly own the stage, as audiences and judges alike were blown away by energetic performances from both ‘The Loreto Blues’ (our Senior Choir), and our Junior Choir, at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod on Monday 22 August.
The Loreto Blues brought a touch of Bollywood to the competition this year to take out the ‘Show Choir – Secondary’ section with a fantastic rendition of ‘Jai ho’, made famous by the 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire. Jai Ho is a Nepali and Hindi phrase which can be roughly translated as ‘Let there be victory’, which seemed very appropriate as the performance also saw them recognised by the adjudicator as ‘the most deserving choir’ at the close of the Secondary Schools sections, awarding them the ‘The City of Ballarat Choral Contest Secondary Schools Encouragement Award’. Many hours of rehearsal also paid of for our Loreto Junior Choir, who received a Gold Award in the ‘School Choirs’ Standards’ section for a moving performance of ‘The Prayer’. Congratulations girls!
