Two Year 12 students, Maddy Davey and Gabby Wren each had 35cm of their hair cut off to donate to Children’s Charity, Variety last Friday. Their hair will be used to to make into wigs for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition. According to Variety, “[w]igs cost families up to $6,000, lasting 1-2 years, meaning families can spend tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of wigs throughout a child’s youth.”
Maddy and Gabby also had a crowd funding campaign for the cause where the highest bidder gets to make the ‘big chop’ which is generated great support for the cause, and a bidding war! $440 was raised within ten minutes, the final tally far exceeding expectation.
Both girls, who have always had a long hair said that they “wanted to give back to help sick kids”.
