Today we mark National Sorry Day following the landmark 1997 Bringing Them Home report. We continue to remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families, communities and cultural identity. On this significant day for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, we recognise their strength and resilience and acknowledge the grief, suffering and injustice experienced and the intergenerational impacts that are still felt to this day.
As we begin Reconciliation Week tomorrow with the theme ‘Be Brave. Make Change’, today is an important day for us to begin reflecting on the role we have to play in reconciliation. To learn more about how we can all ‘Make Change’ please visit nrw.reconciliation.org.au
